Eind juni 2012 ben ik weer aangekomen in Leh en in Likir,
Ladakh. Het is heerlijk om weer hier in de Himalaya te zijn . De natuur is dit
jaar later, de winter ,sneeuw en regenval duurden langer en daardoor is de lucht
ook nog kouder,de planten zijn nog niet zo groot als andere jaren en de mooie
wilde roze rozen starten nu hun bloeiperiode.
Deze zomer zal de focus vanuit stichting Create voornamelijk
liggen op een basis te leggen om een Master Teacher Training Cursus op te
zetten. Tijdens de workshops van afgelopen jaar,de reünie van de teachers die
naar Dharamsala zijn geweest en de principalmeeting in het Wiladhouse, is duidelijk naar voren gekomen dat er
behoefte bestaat aan een uitgebreidere training voor de teachers van de basisscholen.
Dit heeft geresulteerd na het verzoek van 12 principals van private primary
schools, tot het besluit van stichting Create om een cursus te gaan ontwikkelen
van drie maanden, verdeeld over twee jaren, de zogenaamde MTTC, Master Teacher
Training Course.
Na de ervaringen van afgelopen jaren blijkt dat er voldoende
netwerk en een stevige basis is om het werk van stichting Create in de Himalaya
uit te breiden. Als start hebben John Oost, Tjits en ik, Willemien Frencken
contact gehad met elkaar en een ruwe opzet gemaakt van het traject. Deze zomer
zal Willemien gebruiken om vervolg gesprekken te hebben met 19 scholen in
Ladakh en 2 scholen in de Nubra vallei. Tijdens die contacten zal duidelijk
worden wat de specifieke behoefte zijn vanuit de scholen, met name de
onderwerpen die in de MTTC aan bod zouden moeten komen.
De MTTC richt haar aandacht op het ontwikkelen van
onderwijsmethodieken die ondersteunend zijn voor de teachers in het
basisonderwijs in de Himalaya zodat een grotere groep kinderen de aangeboden
lesstof op kunnen nemen en daardoor betere kansen maken om aan het eind van de
basisperiode te slagen voor hun examens en dus kunnen doorstromen naar het vervolgonderwijs.
In de eerste week van juli heb ik al contact gehad met 7 scholen.
Het is heerlijk om zoveel bekende gezichten terug te zien. De gesprekken die
volgen zijn zeer verschillend, maar bij elke school bestaat er een enthousiasme
om mee te werken aan de MTTC. Voor iedereen betekent het dat er de komende
periode intern overleg gepleegd
moet worden, omdat de scholen die meewerken ook de keuze moeten maken om het
programma van de MTTC in te voeren
in de hele school. De scholen
moeten zelf ook een financiële bijdrage leveren om de teachers uit te zenden.
Tijdens de gesprekken komen vragen zoals, management van een
klas, projectgericht werken, wat te doen met kinderen die speciale aandacht
vragen, ontwikkelingspsychologie, leren
van een taal, aan bod. Sommige scholen geven ook advies over literatuur, of adressen in de rest van
India waar succesvolle trainingsprogramma`s voor teachers gegeven zijn.
De komende periode ga ik nog een aantal scholen bezoeken en zal ook contact hebben met de Snow Leopard Organisation waaraan
we een verzoek doen om vanuit hun expertise deel te willen nemen aan de MTTC.

Dear everyone,
At the end of June I arrived again in Leh
and Likir, Ladakh. It is good to be back in the Himalayas. Springtime has
started later this year. The longer winter period with snow and rainfall makes
that the air is still colder than usual. Plants are not growing as fast in
comparison to other years and the beautiful red roses only start blooming now.
Create foundation will focus this summer on
setting up the basis for the Master Teacher Training Course. During last year's
workshops, the reunion of the teachers participating in the Dharamsala course
and the principal meeting in the Wilad House in Likir, the need was clearly
expressed to have more extensive training for the primary school teachers. This
resulted in official requests of 12 principals to develop a Master Teacher
Training Course, the MTTC. The Create foundation has taken this request into
consideration back in The Netherlands and the board decided to develop such a
course. The idea is to hold the training during three months, divided over 2
years.
Building on the experience over the last
years, the Create foundation has a good network providing a solid basis to
extent our activities in the Himalayas. As a starting point, John Oost, Tjits
and I, Willemien Frencken have put together a plan on the process to set up the
MTTC. This summer will be used to have meetings with 19 schools in Ladakh and 2
schools in the Nubra valley. Those meetings are held to get a better picture of
the specific needs and possible topics for the MTTC.
The MTTC's goal is to develop teaching methodologies,
which are supportive and implementable for primary school teachers in order to improve
the quality of teaching. By
improving teaching methodologies a larger group of children will have better
chances to pass the exams in order to continue studying.
During the first week of July I have had
contact with 7 schools. It was good to see everybody again. The conversations
were different but all the schools are motivated to participate in the MTTC.
This means that they have to discuss this plan also internally. Participating
in the MTTC also means they have to implement the programme into the school. It
also means that the schools will have to make a financial contribution to help to
send out their teachers. During the talks many subjects are discussed like the
class management, project work, how to deal with children that need special
attention, developmental psychology and language teaching. Some schools have
also contributed and advised about possible literature for the MTTC and addresses
of similar successful training programmes in India.
I will continue visiting the schools and also
pay a visit to the Snow Leopard Organisation to discuss their possible role in
the MTTC.
